Tenders and chase boats
Importation options
US-built tenders are subject to tariffs when imported into the EU.
Tenders only used for transporting guests between the mothership and the shore can be registered under the same registration as the mothership and called “tender to”. The tender’s status is the same as the mothership and it will be imported with the mothership. Navigation must stay within of line of sight of the mothership at all times.

Tenders or chase boats which are used independently of the mothership, towed or delivered on own bottom, require their own registration.
Customs has not yet formally stated whether US-built tenders imported into the EU under TA as “tender to’ or separately will be subject to the same conditions as the mothership and be exposed to VAT liability if they transport EU residents onboard.

To be on the safe side, we do not recommend transporting EU resident by tender or chase boat if imported under TA until further clarification form customs.

We will keep you posted. For information about Customs schemes check out the US TARIFFS posts and feel free to contact us for further information.
